A Little Life Update

Hello everyone! I always make it a goal of mine to post consistently every month, and then every month I seem to miss a few posts!

If you haven't liked my facebook page, you wouldn't have seen the post that I put up about my schedule. I've decided to start posting on Tuesdays and Fridays instead of Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. I have a lot of changes happening in the coming months and I don't want to feel a ton of pressure from the blog.

This week has been especially stressful for me combining work and a lot of personal issues going on.  I've been bad about posting but rest assured I am still here and thinking about it!  Come Tuesday I'll finally get a good post up for you guys; not a life update.

Thanks for sticking with me!

Target Beauty Box: June 2016

Hello everyone!  Today I'm coming at you with one of my favorite boxes ever; the Target Beauty Box.  I don't buy it every month, but when the products really stand out to me I grab it right away!

If you're sitting here wondering "Karissa, since when has Target had a monthly subscription?" It hasn't. But they do release a different box every month that contains skincare, haircare, and makeup products.  The price does fluctuate from box to box; I've seen it priced at anywhere from $5-$10.

This month it was a $10 box, and you get 11 products! They also came out with a men's box, but since I am not a man I decided it was not the best investment for me.

I've said this before and I'll say it again; I feel like the Target boxes are so good for people who aren't super crazy about their makeup/skincare/haircare but still want to try new things from the drugstore.

Enough rambling, let's get into the good stuff!

My Beauty Profile

Hello everyone! Today I'll be posting up a little bit of a beauty profile. What is this you might ask?

A beauty profile is going to be a post that defines what exactly I have going on with my skin and hair.  I find that having a post like this to refer back to will make finding out if a product will work for you much easier!

For example, if I leave a review about a face mask that does nothing for me at all but you want to know if it'd work for you, it might be to your advantage to check out what my specific skin type is like and see if it's different from yours!  The same goes with any sort of hair product that may or may not work for me.

Skin
My skin could be described as normal to very dry, depending on the weather and the day. Sometimes my skin will look pretty decent, other times it will be so dry you can see it flaking off of my face; ew.  I think a lot of that has to do with my having eczema.  Eczema is essentially a condition where you have chronically super dry skin. Like so dry that it becomes itchy, so you itch it and then it looks kind of rashy and just gross.  I actually have prescription strength ointment for it; it gets bad.

My skin tone is light to light-medium with warm (yellow) undertones.  I wear NW20 in MAC foundation, and 180 Sand Beige in the Revlon Colorstay to help give you guys an idea of the actual color.

Acne wise, I don't really suffer from bad breakouts. Here and there I'll get a pimple or two, but never any really bad spots with a lot at once.  I do suffer from blackheads here and there, but nothing too bad.

My worst problem skin wise is actually super big pores.  This is especially true for my nose and cheeks, where they are giant.  I also have some issues with redness, especially on my cheeks.

As you can see, my lips are pretty pigmented. I'm not wearing anything on them right now; they're just really darkly colored.

Hair
My hair can be described as a lot of different things.  Descriptive, I know!

I have very thick and coarse hair.  It's also considered chemically treated; I bleached it over a year ago, and about a month ago I dyed it a red-brown color.

It's actually wavy to very wavy to curly, depending on how it feels. Immediately after I shower and it's dry it's pretty curly, but after I sleep in it one day it gets wavy with only a little bit of curl left.  Sometimes it looks almost straight, again depending on how my hair is feeling.

My scalp itself tends to get dry because of my eczema, but the roots of my hair get oily really fast.  My ends are really dry and I do have a lot of split ends.

Well, that's it! I'm not sure what else I can really include, I think I did a pretty good job at letting

Sprout Voxbox

Hello everyone! Today I'm coming at you with another Voxbox! I was actually surprised to have gotten into this box, as it isn't something I really am involved in, but I won't argue with free stuff. It's the Sprout Voxbox!

The focus of the Sprout Voxbox was on healthy, all natural ingredients in every product.  This box came with five items, but some people ended up getting a skincare item as well!

Unlike my last box, this time I won't be doing a week of posts for each product. Since these aren't beauty items and don't really fit with my blog theme, I'll just be reviewing them in this post!

Let's jump right into it!

EatSmart Snacks Spicy Black Bean Tortilla Chips
First, and probably my favorite, were these EatSmart chips!  They're made of three different kinds of beans and flavored with a "spicy black bean" flavor. I was beyond disappointed with the fact that these were as spicy as they were because I can't handle it!  They were so delicious, they tasted just like a tortilla chip!  The spiciness wouldn't be overwhelming for a normal person, I'm just a big baby!  Seriously though, these taste awesome. Go get you some.

Curate Dark Temptations Bar
The next product is another food item!  This one personally wasn't as good as the chips, however.  It's a bar made of all healthy foods, and the strongest flavors are definitely the fig and orange.  You still can taste the vinegar in it as well. This isn't the worst tasting bar in the world, but I personally did not think that the flavors really complemented each other.  The fig was good, but the orange tasted like a peel (likely because of the vinegar) and it just didn't work for me. These are great however for someone who likes to focus on eating healthy foods!

ECOS Laundry Detergent
This was a cute little single load sample of some good for you detergent!  I used this on one of my loads and thought it did a pretty good job!  I personally wouldn't go out and buy it because I don't care about the stuff in my detergent (shame on me, I know).  If you're a person who really needs green products or just prefers them this is a great alternative to other brands.

Hairfood Shampoo and Conditioner
I've been trying this stuff out here and there but haven't made a final decision on how I feel quite yet!  It works really well and keeps my hair from getting frizzy, but I think it's drying my scalp out.  I have been just using shampoo and not the conditioner on my scalp so maybe I'll need to start conditioning it too.  It's good to use healthy products but again I'm not someone who is super focused on green products.

Orgain Organic Protein

Unfortunately this is the one product I haven't used yet and as such I don't even have a picture of it!  I'm the kind of person that works out for a few weeks at a time and then falls off the wagon. It's a bit of a yo-yo situation for me. I've never been one to use protein or any supplements, but maybe since I have this I'll try it out!

As you guys can see, I wasn't super crazy about this box. There wasn't anything wrong with it, I just don't really care about using green products!  It's great to see them and have them, but I won't go out of my way to find more.

As stated in my last VoxBox post, all of these products were sent to me for free in exchange for an honest review.

What do you guys think?  Are you into using healthier, greener products? Let me know!

Play! by Sephora: May 2016

Hello everyone! Super exciting news: I will be reviewing the Play! by Sephora box from now on!  It was my super secret box, not sure if it's really that big of a surprise though.  A lot of people got into the subscription for May, so reviews might be a little saturated  but I'm so excited for it!

They did things a little differently for this month, likely because of the huge influx of people in the subscription. Previously they had sent a box within a box, much like Birchbox. This month they sent a box, and then inside of it was the little info poster and a bag with the products in that.

So this is what the bag looks like! It's really cute and a drawstring bag, but unfortunately it'll be getting a new home. It's not really a functional bag to use so there's no point in keeping it.

Instead of the booklet like they used to do, Sephora sent out a cute little poster with all the products and information about them.  Probably a lot more cost effective versus a full booklet.

I totally forgot to take a picture of all the products together, so let's just get right into each individual product!

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick "Kimchi"
Let's start big!  Or small, because this is a super cute little sample!  I've heard so much hype about these lipsticks and I totally get it.  These smell so good and are incredibly pigmented.  I like that even this little dinky sample has the exact same packaging as the full size lipstick.

Holy bright pink. This is one heck of an intense color. It's a perfect summer shade for me, but I don't think I can say the same for someone else!  This isn't the most easily wearable color because of the intensity, but it's just stunning.

Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask
Oh no!  I got this last month in my Birchbox and haven't even used that up yet.  I've heard so much about this product, so I'm really hoping it works well for me.  If not, I'll have some things to be giving away!

Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial
I think this sounds so cool! It's a sleeping facial, so you put it on and then leave it on overnight. Since I'm a lazy girl, taking out the whole washing your face afterward step sounds great! I've never tried one of these before, and I really like the fact that I'm starting with a quality brand.

Origins Maskimizer Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer
I've heard of a lot of things, but never have I heard of a mask primer!  It's a pretty cool concept: it's meant to prep your face so that when you put on your very pricey masks, you'll get the best results.  Origins also sent two of their masks; a charcoal mask and a hydrating mask.  I love mask samples, especially ones that are single use. I have a tendency to use too much or too little so having it measured out for me is good!

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume
Yummy! This perfume smells just like a fresh orange peel but not quite as citrusy. It's got a little bit of bitterness into it which takes away from the super crazy sweetness of fruit.  Unfortunately this sample doesn't have a stick or a spray nozzle, so you have to figure out how you want to apply it!

Tarte Tarteist Lip Crayon "Latergram"
Finally we've got this Tarte lip liner!  This sample is super small and I would highly recommend not rolling it up all the way, as it won't roll back down.  It's also part of Tarte's newer line called "Tarteist" which adds a ton of new, trendy products.

Here's a swatch of the lip liner! It's a gorgeous nudey mauve color.  There's actually a matching matte lip paint in the shade TBT, which I have a sample of!  This is a perfect my lips but better shade, which seems really dark; however, I have super pigmented lips.

Well, that's it!  I really love the lip products, and the fact that Sephora sent some really hot items! If you're looking for high quality brands and samples this is absolutely the box to choose. I'm so excited to see what the future holds for this box!

What do you guys think?  Do you like the lipstick this month? Would you wear it? Let me know!
